Allen's favorite day of the week is on Mondays when we have family home evening. We usually start the night with songs at the piano. It's really fun trying to sing along with Brad's playing while Allen accompanies him. This week even Brig joined in on the chaotic fun.
After songs we have prayer, a lesson (always about Jesus, per Allen's request), and games.
I knew that our family would be blessed for following the inspired council to hold weekly FHE in our home, but I didn't foresee how much my 2 1/2 year old son would pick up. Not only does he know the words to many primary songs, he also remembers the lessons.
Examples:
Last week we had a Christmas lesson and explained to Allen, with visual aides, that Jesus was born and why we worship him. The rest of the week he would randomly tell people (even an unsuspecting stranger in the grocery store line) that, "Jesus was born. He was a bay-beeee!"
And...
A few weeks ago we had a lesson about the Prophet Joseph Smith. We showed Allen pictures of the restoration and gave a few simple explanations of events. The rest of the week he pointed out the picture of Joseph Smith that we have in our home. The following Sunday in Sacrament meeting he turned around and pointed at a man (our friend, John) and declared loudly, "That's Joseph Smith!" Funny thing is that John really does look like Joseph Smith. The rest of the meeting Allen kept turning around to wave and say, "Hi Joseph Smith." The laughter extended a few pews beyond John's red face.
And here is Allen singing Brigham to sleep after our last FHE. He has done it every night since. *Sigh* I love these boys.
